Just because there’s no proof doesn’t mean they’re wrong. Sometimes said stat is common knowledge, where the debater doesn’t know where to get the proof. Or, the debater has no access to getting proof, but does have statements (Zeed’s multiverse busting for example.)

It’s like CID just explained up above. If they continuously avoid posting proof if people happen to disagree with their claims It should be considered spam.

They don’t have to be wrong. They just need something that proves them right.

By people disagreeing, I assume you mean the majority, yes? If 20 people say one thing, but one disagrees, but none of those 20 have ready proof, then what?

Offering my opinion on this, even if they are lacking proof, if the 20 people can give the context and situation of the proof they don’t have, then I believe the 20 people.

By people I mean one person or just people in general who disagree with what you’ve claimed.

If you make a claim but you also have proof to back it up if someone disagrees then that’s good.

If those 20 people make a claim then the same logic applies to them.

If they aren’t making a claim but are merely asking for proof of one then there’s no reason to post proof of anything unless they want to counter someone else’s arguments.

Also what Natsu said.

Pretty much this. It’s okay to disagree or agree in VS threads. But make it succinct and give reasons as to why character A beats character B with an iron fist. It’s easy to debate without using confrontational words. It just happens that hostility is pretty common here.

Fantastic suggestion. It will actually be in the new rules that “insert character solos” and the like will be considered spam and if done over and over will get you warned and eventually banned.

On the other hand, I WILL be fighting for a new part of VS for more joke-ish topics. OBD is bad, but their setups are nice. Having a “joke battledome” can alleviate the main section’s spam.

Yeah, a joke battledome wouldn’t be so bad.

I don’t mind a member saying, "<insert character> solos." But at the very least, make a constructive argument; not just leave things hanging saying, “Goku can stomp <insert character> becuz he can destroy planets and that’s it." Point out each characters' strongest point and their weaknesses, compare their intelligence and such.

I don’t think EVERY post needs to be a detailed discussion. But people shouldn’t make a habit of ALL of their posts in VS being a single sentence and when confronted about their opinion they should either stop posting or provide some proof for their claims. That is how a debate works, after all. Opening statement, counter statement, argument, counter argument.

znjfl wrote: Im guessing this isnt in your power, but disabling the option that allows guests to make threads would be a great start.

Lets face it, vast majority of VS threads made by guests are locked withing 2-3 pages anyway, not having them in the first place would be the best option.

Stricter policies regarding trolling, and baiting.

I`m not saying ban all the trolls, the good trolls actually make it all more interesting, but the standard “Goku solos”, “Madara chucks a meteor”, “Ichigo flicks” etc is just annoying.

And going off topic should be much more limited.

Sometimes going a bit off topic can actually have connections with the topic itself, but changing it into something else entirely should be stopped.

The thread doesnt need to be locked(unless the debate is obviously over), but the ones taking it off topic should be banned from the thread.

Guests can’t make threads, most of the threads made by them have likely just been bumped from years ago when they could make them. As for everything else, I will definitely keep it in mind. Threads shouldn’t constantly be derailed. smiley

Well, somebody needs to provide an argument. If not it’s just a pissing contest between egos. When making a claim it’s on that person to back up said claim. If you don’t have it yourself, a simple google search should be able to locate it for you. If you can’t find it, it generally just doesn’t exist and you’re wrong. You don’t have to make a paragraph detailing the feat, but you should back it up somehow.

That’s spam. And we will be trying to tame it. I’ve noticed Ranerio already trying to keep DBZ out of unrelated threads already, so we’ll just have to follow his example.

Common knowledge is a BS, shaky argument for anything. And is subject to the bias of debaters.

Yes indeed.

Don’t you think that there are more kids than adults (with common sense) on this site?
So even if we 'the older members' would like it to be more serious, I am pretty sure the newcomers won’t like it as much...
If you know where I am trying to get.

I will be trying to have a new section created for more lighthearted debates where silly posts and threads can flourish. Doing so would hopefully keep those types of posts and threads away from the people who want an actual debate.

While this will result in the end of 95% of the posts in the VS sections, the posters in question tend to be the illogical ones.

So: why not? wink

Sure. I’ll ban the threads and you round up all the people and make them read other manga.
