I don’t know why I’m making such a topic (this site is barren, but I probably am doing this due to boredom).

I couldn’t help but notice an old thread (which is locked FYI) similar to this one, that didn’t give an answer at all really, meaning not many people know as much as they think they do about Hip-Hop and rap, so I just had to do it.

So, ok:

___---***---___

A rapper is someone who writes or frees lyrics, and who can perform their work well, audibly (good dynamics, clear and strong voice, good flow, and an entertaining “vibe”, and with stage presence). So, to be a good rapper, you need to be able to freestyle well AND be able to write skillful and pleasing/wow-full rap lyrics with good criteria, and obviously be skilled in ALL of those performance aspects.

An MC literally means a Mic Controller, which literally means he controls the microphone, and can use one to “rock a crowd”. An MC doesn’t always have to be skilled on the creative side as in have unheard of writing or freestyling skills, as long as he/she has the performance above par and move/entertain the audience.

A rapper uses the mic to show off rap skills, and to win rap battles; an MC uses the mic to deliver emotion, and to effect the crowd with that emotion and move them in a desired way.

Either way, both are just as important in Hip-Hop. “Hip-Hop” itself pictures movement (just look at the name), and you won’t get anywhere if your raps are bad as no one will rate ya.

In rap in general? That’s another story, but you need to be a good rapper as well as a quality MC in order to be successful in the Hip-Hop game, especially in the main rap department of it. So, a good rapper is just as bad as a good MC (neither is better, because they are, bluntly but truthfully, terrible), but a good rapper who can control the mic as in be the 'Mic Controller' on the other hand, is a talent to look out for.

In Mexico a rapper and hip hop artists seem to be synonymous. And generally rappers are people that are freestylers and battle other rappers on the spot.

While MC refer to rappers that also make and produce music/discs.

While this version might not be the original meaning, it should give the general idea of what they mean.

That’s bullshit Les Matadorr a rapper generally means someone who just sells cds where he raps he doesn’t have to do freestyle and normally freestylers arent reffered to as rappers while MC doesn’t have to be rap, it can be different kinds of music (mostly pop things like usher whos definitely not a rapper)

That’s why I specified a region. Rappers in the USA are untalented and limited. Their best rhymes are easily toppled in a vs match by Spanish speaking rappers/mc (except Spanish rappers from Spain, they suck).

You can’t say that american rappers are untalented. I mean yeah most of them aren’t that good and rappers from other countries like germany turkey or russia are better but there still are some good american rappers. And what the hell is a spanish rapper who’s not from spain? That doesn’t make thaat much sense.

Yes I can because objectively most are trash. Even when they have time to write their songs they still make trash.
This isn’t even considering their freestyle or rap battle abilities.
Did you hear Drake vs Meek? In an average rap battle they throw more punch than both meek and Drake did on their songs.

The only decent rapper when it comes to free and battle that speaks English is DNA, and he’s pretty much a God compared to the other rappers.

How many can you name?

“Spanish speaking”, so most countries from central and south America speak Spanish. The Spanish speaking rappers from Spain (a country) generally suck and mostly talk about sex, fucking, and dicks; whenever they freestyle or battle.
