Mainly cause they are low budget films and because the directors do not care about setting you up for the scientifically fascinating plot. And because the plot is really never fascinating, or even plausible for that matter. Most of the time it’s theme is nonsensical.

I just happened upon this thread so I’ll answer the question. All the SyFy original movies suck because they can. Enough people tune in to justify the cost of making these movies for as little money as possible.

A “real” movie in a theater usually takes a writer months to write, then they spend time developing it, then they spend months shooting it and then it spends a few more months in post-production. A SyFy movie does all of that in a few weeks.

If SyFy spent all that time and money, they might get some more viewer once word got out that they are actually making good movies, but they probably wouldn’t turn a profit. But, by making these cheap little crappy movies, enough people tune in just for the “fun” that they can make a profit.
