The Republic

A Nation on Trial

Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion

Excellent thought provoking books that help you look at things from different angles.

Are John Green’s books any good? I was under the impression his books were only bought for the same reason Twilight books were purchased.

Honestly, Norman G. Finkelstein, is a one of the best when it comes to tearing apart arguments. He has the ability to recall almost everything he reads and use it against his opponent in angles that one wouldn’t see at first glance. Add layers of this and the process becomes so much more complex, to such a point it is hard to stay constant.

Also, was reading part of “Moral Minds” by Marc Hauser and “A Rulebook For Arguments” by Anthony Weston. Didn’t really like either of those.

Wow, A Nation on Trial is a short book but it took me a while when reading multiple other books.

Anyway, Finklestein completely tore Goldhagens' thesis to shreds.
Definitely this is going under one of my favorites.

Currently reading “Consider the lobster” by David Foster Wallace, pretty demanding book since every essay is filled with tons and tons of informations, notes, references, and all that shit. Still an awesome book tho, it’s the third one by DFW that i’ve read, and it definitely became one of my all time fav authors. Pretty sad that he’s not here anymore, huh?

The Evolution of Earth

It’s an old book but hopefully I acquire new knowledge on what they used to hypothesis about our universe, even if it’s not accurate to today’s standards.

Something I found interesting is that they used to call black holes as dark stars. Based on the hypothesis that a star would be so large that not even light could escape its gravitational pull.

Black hole was later coined and stuck. But I prefer dark star.

What book should I read next?
Any recommendations for any of these:
1.)Beyond Good and Evil: Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
2.) The Works of Epictetus by Epictetus
3.) The Elements of Style by William Strunk
4.) Principles of Geology by Sir Charles Lyell
5.) Principles of Human Geography by Ellsworth Huntington
6.) English Grammar by Lindley Murray
7.) Mathematics for the Practical man by George Howe
8.) Flatland by Edwin Abbott Abbott
9,) Paradise Lost by John Milton
10.) Biology by Steven Daniel Garber
11.) Principles of Chemistry by Joel Henry Hildebrand
12.) Economic World
I’d like to read one or two of the listed books before I get to the main dish and read a physics book.

Going to read some physics and mathetic books (finally get to the main course). Pity I have to skip Biology and Language Arts, due to time restrictions.
