I just never could get into LOTR sad.

All those lengthy descriptions bored me to death. I guess I’m just not a fan of exposition.

The lengthy descriptions do get annoying at times even to those who love exposition and detailed realism; I understand. Nonetheless, the plot itself was original at the time and is interesting; on top of that, Tolkien’s writing style and ability to weave happenings with humor and mystery keeps one interested if they can get past the explanatory pieces.

The only thing that always got me about Tolkien was the songs, I always kind of skipped them.

Of course! That was actually one of the first recs I got when I asked for some fantasy recommendations.

The problem is that I can’t seem to find the first book in hardcover anywhere.

D. Gray-Man- Very good series overall. Chapter 188 right now, and I really like it.

Cheers for the info.

I’ll probably read both of them eventually, but i’m now going to start with D. Gray-man first.

If anyone is a fan of the Team Ico games, I’d definitely recommend picking up Ico: Castle in the Mists. It’s 16$ retail, but a great read.

Shame on you.

I chuckled.

Well besides LOTR, there’s WoT, Redwall Series, Contact, the hunchback of Notre Dame, Frankenstein, harry potter (who doesn’t know really), signal, hitchhikers ride to the galaxy, & the lightness of being, well I could go on but this is a decent list to start I believe.

I have to recommend the Travelers Gate Trilogy to any fans of fantasy period.

The whole concepts of the territories and there travelers is pretty awesome.

The basics of which are if you get chosen or just happen to be a natural traveler of a territory then you can gain powers from said territory by passing different tests that the are within said territory and coincide with what the territories all about for example Ragnarus’s prices are paid in blood and pain mostly.
While Valinhall is all about combat so you have to fight to earn pretty much anything.
