I have a question that I never understood:
If Cthulhu was destined to rise on that day, and the sailors accidentally let him out, why did he return to r’lyeh and sleep? Why didn’t he start reviving the other Old Ones like he was going to to had the cultists let him free? Why did r’lyeh sink again?

The stars were not right since he was accidentally awakened.

I’m pretty sure the “Cthulhu” who got hit by the boat, reformed, and then retreated to R’lyeh wasn’t even the actual Cthulhu, just a star spawn.
