NOTICE: Spoiler tags are not required, as it is assumed that all who view this thread have read all currently released books. Therefore, people not up-to-date should proceed at their own risk. There is one stipulation: every time a new book is released, its content and implications will have to be spoilered for the period of one year after its publication.

If you wish to discuss the TV series (HBO’s Game of Thrones), would like to have a comparatively spoiler-free discussion, or both, please visit this discussion.

Enjoy! smiley

There appears to be a topic for the show, but there is no way to comfortably discuss the book series.

Here, you can converse about canonical material, make predictions, have miscellaneous discourse, etc. without spoiling the TV show for those who have not read the series and/or have not watched the most recent episodes. Please be warned that any material present in the posts of this thread may be a spoiler, for there is no tagging requirement save what is specified above.

When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.

As High as Honor ~ House Arryn
Ours is the Fury ~ House Baratheon
Hear Me Roar!~ House Lannister
Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken ~ House Martell
Winter is Coming ~ House Stark
Fire and Blood ~ House Targaryen
Family, Duty, Honor ~ House Tully
Growing Strong ~ House Tyrell

Gonna make a start with the books.

I’ll try to read the first 3 by the end of the year; I’m still not sure if I wanna read ahead of the show.

I heard some recent news that somewhere in the next 3 eps the show will be taking a different direction.

I’ll try to find the article again. BRB.

Well, I know the scene with Jaime and Cersei in the previous episode was quite different to how it was portrayed in the books.

I’m pretty sure that Jaime arrives in King’s Landing after Joffrey’s death. Whereas, in the show, he’s already been there for weeks.

Nearly finished reading AGoT.

The characters are so much more fleshed out in the books. Daenerys' story-line is also a lot more interesting in the books -- with her final chapter being one of the highlights.

My favourite POV’s were definitely Jon and Tyrion’s.

Daeny was always a POV favorite of mine.

Also, who else hates Sansa’s POV? Fuck off Sansa, no one cares about you.

I prefer Sansa to Dany, actually. She’s mediocre, but at least she isn’t a try-hard. Bri > Arya > Caitlin > Sansa, doe.

Jon’s PoV is my personal fav.

I quite enjoyed Jon’s myself.

Dany’s POV was pretty solid in AGoT.

Yes.

How would you rank the books against each other?

I hear a lot of people saying that the last 2 books aren’t as good as the first 3.

I think the fourth one wasn’t paced very well. Mainly because it did a Pulp Fiction sort of thing, going back and covering what other people were doing during book three.

And book 5 was talking about what people were doing in book 4.

Your Facebook newsfeed tells a tale of how a newly enlightened 15-year-old Atheist put that stupid fundie in their place? My girlfriend who you haven’t met because she goes to a different school totally saw it happen and verified it for me.
