This is a slight modification on the original proposed set posted here, where feedback may be directed.

1. Don’t be an asshat or attempt to instigate things; use your common sense (this applies to all aspects of the site, from post content to avatars and signatures to moderation/administration)

2. Staff must give clear warnings on first offence of a particular type, typically including what the bad behaviour is

3. Users must listen to site staff: if they do not, bans (and other punishments) are likely to follow

4. Staff reserve the right to edit content as is appropriate, e.g. usernames and posts, without warning

5. Users reserve the right to forward complaints of staff behaviour to administrators (although not all complaints will necessarily be addressed)

6. Particularly egregious, damaging offences (pornography, mass spamming, other things that must be immediately contained) may result in bans without warnings

1 - Illegal content)
Discussions on illegal content (e.g. cracks and serials), even illegal content acquisition (e.g. torrents), are not allowed. You can say you have a Torrent client, for example, but any discussion past that - especially links - is strictly forbidden.
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, bans (5-7)

2 - Suicide assistance)
Asking how to kill yourself, or providing answers to such a question, are not allowed.
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, bans (1-4, more if providing answers)

3 - Suicide encouragement)
Encouraging suicide is strictly forbidden.
Typical actions: Bans (6-9)

4 - Insensitive remarks)
Refrain from inflammatory/rude/insensitive (etc.) remarks in sensitive topics or posts, such as the death of a member’s parent. Have some respect, even if the topic/post might be a “joke” thread.
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, topic bans (3-6), site bans (5-7, esp. if habitual)

5 - Profanity)
Avoid excessive profanity. Typically, any ratio more than 3 swear words per line of text in a standard reply box (sans BBCode) is seen as too much.
Typical actions: Warning, post moderation/deletion, bans (1-4)

6 - Flaming)
As with 5, avoid excessive flaming. Flame-battles between two people that last for more than 1-2 pages are highly discouraged. This generally translates to 10-20 posts for one user, consecutive or in close proximity.
Note: agreed-upon flame-off threads may be exceptions to this rule, but try to follow the other rules within these threads.
Note2: this typically only escalates if an excessive flaming issue occurs again between the same set of users, especially when it is shortly after a previous warning
Typical actions: Warnings, post deletion, topic bans (1-4), site bans (5-7)

7 - Sensitive topics)
Avoid bringing sensitive topics into flame battles, e.g. religious beliefs, especially in topics that have nothing to do with it. This falls under the purviews of excessive flaming and (often) staying on the topic.
Note: Insults against a religion or religious belief, such as “Christianity is stupid”, may be covered by this rule if done in excess and only for the purpose of being discriminatory.
Typical actions: Warnings, post moderation, topic bans (1-4)

8 - Death threats)
Death threats are strictly forbidden, vieled death threats are forbidden as well. E.x.: Variants of “I’m gonna (get my homies to) kill you” and “you better watch your back”, when used in member/member contexts, are forbidden.
Note: Wishing someone’s death is not a death threat, but may break other rules (see 3-6)
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, bans (5-7)

9 - Discrimination)
Discrimination (against racial groups, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) and racism are not allowed. Spiteful comments intended to insult a major group, such as Christians, fall under this rule. Racist slurs against any skin colour are also strictly forbidden, regardless of what colour a user’s skin actually is.
Note: comments against unpopular/morally questionable groups, e.g. Nazism, are typically put under this rule as spam (we do not condone Nazism or other such groups).
Note2: certain racial slang is permissible only when used in a friendly context (e.g. “nigga” meaning “buddy” ). If there is insufficient context, it will be treated as racism.
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, bans (1-7)

10 - Spamming)
Spam comes in 3 variants, none of which are permitted:
Mild: posting gibberish or advertising-only posts, either in one topic or across several. More than 5 mild spam posts in 6 hours becomes a rule infraction.
----Typical actions: Warning, post moderation/deletion, bans (1-4)
Moderate: posting gibberish or advertising topics, either in one forum or across several. More than 5 moderate spam topics in 6 hours becomes a rule infraction.
----Typical actions: Topic deletion, bans (5-7)
Malicious: rampant flooding of topics, sensible or otherwise, either in one forum or across several, done with a purposely malicious intent (e.g. with a script or bot).
----Typical actions: Mass topic deletion, bans (8-P)
Note: if the account has no or very few posts, the account may be banned permanently for any of the above spam infractions under the suspicion of an advertisement bot.
Note 2: spamming or abuse of the report system counts too!

11 - Topics)
If a topic has a definitive point, keep to that point. Off-topic discussions that last for more than 1 page are highly discouraged.
Note: Threads without a definitive point, as well as most threads in the Off-Topic section, are typically exempt from this rule.
Typical actions: Warnings, post deletion, topic bans (1-4), site bans (5-7, if habitual)

12 - Pornography)
Posting or linking to pornographic material - either in image or text form - is strictly prohibited and will lead to bans without warning.
Note: artistic nudity, such as in sculptures, must be hyperlinked only AND placed inside spoiler tags that carries an all-capitals “WARNING: NUDITY” warning. Failure to follow this procedure will count the content as pornography.
Typical actions: Bans (7-P)

13 - Questionable/explicit content)
Content bordering on pornography or extremely graphic content (e.g. extreme violence, either in images or writing, and sexually connotative animated images) are highly discouraged.
Note: A (marginally) acceptable example of allowed questionable content can be seen here. The same amount of coverage applies to male privates as well!
Typical actions: Warnings, post moderation/deletion, bans (3-6, extreme examples may be counted as mild pornography (see 12))

14 - Personal information)
Posting your personal information (SIN #s, addresses, full names, photographs, etc.) is highly discouraged. Posting other people’s personal information is strictly forbidden. Email addresses / IPsare included.
Note: First names are not included by default unless that user complains.
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, bans (1-4 for posting own information repeatedly, 6-9 for other people’s)

15 - Security)
Discussing, even mentioning, security-circumventing tools or exploits are strictly forbidden. If you find any such security “gaps”, please message them to me A.S.A.P.
Note: Obviously, using such tools is strictly forbidden!
Typical actions: Post deletion, bans (5-9)

16 - Ban avoidance)
Users acctively using accounts to bypass bans will have these accounts permanently banned on user-account relationship confirmation.
Typical actions: Alt account bans (P), increase to main account ban (by 1), mass post deletion (if habitual)

17 - Page lengthening)
Posting very large images or very long strings of text that stretch a page (beyond 1024 pixels) is not permitted.
Note: See http://testsize.com/ at 1024x768 resolution for a measuring tool
Typical actions: Warning, post moderation (including changing of images to URL)

18 - Flirting)
Being sexually flirtatious with minors (typically <18 years of age) and very heavy flirting (bordering on pornography / explicit content) is not tolerated. If flirting causes a complaint, the flirting will be treated as harrassment and also subject to this rule.
Note: Ages are based on what is written in profile pages and what is declared by the poster.
Typical actions: Post moderation/deletion, bans (5-8), possible police involvement if serious enough

19 - Impersonating)
Impersonating other user accounts is not permitted. This includes using a user name (or guest name) similar to the user name of another for the purposes of impersonating that member.
Note: Guests accounts are not covered in this rule.
Typical actions: Account renames, post deletion, bans (5-8)

20 - Account lending)
Members may not use admin and moderator accounts, even if the owner of said accounts gives permission.
Note: special permission from myself may be obtained for unique circumstances
Typical actions: Moderator demotion, bans (6-10)

21 - Necro-ing)
Posting to older topics (>1 year old) is permitted if and only if the post in question is relevant to the topic. Repeated “bumping” or “necroing” of a topic(s) (>5 topics or bump posts) will count as spam.
Typical actions: Warning, post deletion, typical actions in rule 10

22 - Trolling/joking)
Excessive, mean, or “unfunny” trolling typically falls under excessive flaming. Mild trolling for laughs (preferrably on both sides) is permissible as long as it sticks to other rules.
Joking is not an effective cop-out for breaking the rules. If you break the rule, there is no shrugging the offending post off as “just a joke”.
Note: If you are not sure whether trolling is excessive, but it does not break any other rules, it is not excessive.

23 - Avatars/signatures/userpages/usernames/PMs)
Any and all rules regarding post content applies to avatars, signatures, userpages, usernames, and private messages where applicable, including any visual and written content in any of the locations and any content that may break the layout/design of the site.
Typical actions: Account renames, userpage erasure, signature/avatar moderation/deletion; see typical actions in other rules

24 - Private Messages)
Private messages regarding moderation are to be kept private. The only permissible sharing of a private message can occur under consent of both parties involved. Other PMs are permitted to be shared, so although we typically discourage this action, be careful what you send to whom.
Note: PMs posted that break the rules will warrant action against the poster!
Typical actions: Post/thread deletion/moderation, bans (1-5)

25 - Vulgarity)
Keep flames/jokes clean. Jokes/flames about uncool topics (e.g. rape, kicking babies) are highly discouraged, even if it is heat-of-the-moment.
Typical actions: Warnings, post moderation, bans (1-7)

26 - Backtalk)
Do not ignore or backtalk against admin and moderator warnings. While there is a staff code of conduct, this type of behaviour is very liable to get you into trouble.
Note: Feedback for admins is still highly encouraged; pointless insults and disparaging remarks are not.
Typical actions: Additional warnings, post deletions, elevation of action of rule to bans (rule-dependent)

27 - Seizure images)
Refrain from posting brightly flashing / repeatedly flashing / colour flashing images. If you do, you must post it as a URL or in a spoiler tag with a plain seizure warning.
Note: “psychedelic” images, such as the example here *WARNING, and other images designed purely to cause hallucinations or seizures are also subject to this rule.
Typical actions: Warning, post moderation/deletion, bans (1-4)

28 - Guest posting)
Users are permitted to use guest statuses after their regular account is banned. However, if the user breaks any rule with the guest account during the course of their account ban, the guest receives a ban 1 greater than the ban on the account (see the rules thread for the numeric translation of bans).

29 - Other Forum Attacks) *NEW
Users are not permitted to attack or vandalize other forums, especially “in the name of” Moviecodec. If any complaints reach the staff of Moviecodec, accounts and IPs of the offending party will be banned without warning.
Typical actions: Bans (5-P)

1 = 1 Hour
2 = 3 Hours
3 = 6 Hours
4 = 12 Hours
5 = 1 Day
6 = 7 Days
7 = 1 Month
8 = 3 Months
9 = 6 Months
10 = 1 Year
P = Permanent

Disclaimer: You are responsible for what you and others post. The staff of Moviecodec.com hold no personal responsibility for what the members and affiliates of Moviecodec.com post. If you do not agree with this, DO NOT POST.

-Some reshuffling as suggested by Monster Lord Member
-Added clarification based on Athena’s suggestion
-Added clarification of “Minor”, rule 18
-Added seizure-inducing images rule
-Some extra edits regarding personal pictures as personal information
-Edited the flirting rule to add heavy flirting (e.g. bordering on pornographic / explicit), just as a safeguard
-Bumped up swearing to a 3 word/line breadth (though it still shouldn’t be an issue)
-Edited rule 26 to eliminate possible usage of admin abilities in cases they should not (Code of Conduct pending)
-Added a link to the size of a standard reply box (70 col. width)
-Added the guest posting permission during a ban
-Adjusted PM postings
-Adjusted excessive flaming rule
-Added much-needed rule for vandalism / attacking other sites

Question right here.

This includes all illegal content, correct? I already moderate any anime stream links I see, but should links to manga sites be modded also?

If they are illegal, yes.

See rule 25.

That said, obviously, if us admins don’t see it, there’s pretty much nothing we can do about it.

Great job, Ty.

I think Rule 22 should be removed, and added as a part of Rule 28. Either that or keep Rule 22, remove Rule 28 and add it to Rule 6.

Rule 10 is unnecessary IMO because we have Rule 9. Rule 10 should be removed altogether or added as an extra phrase to Rule 9.

Adjusted. I had originally kept them separate as I had tacked 28 on just today, and 9 and 10 were just slightly distinct (although I managed to combine them anyway: the rules are still effectively the same, it’s just aesthetics).

Great list Travis, I just want to address one of them;

9 - Discrimination)
Discrimination (against racial groups, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) is not allowed. If a comment is overly spiteful to a group (whether that be; Religious, Race &c.)intended to insult a major group, such as Christians, it falls under this rule. Racial slurs against any skin colour are strictly forbidden, regardless of what colour a user’s skin actually is.

I think racism as a whole should be discouraged, not just racial slurs. There are far too many racist threads on this forum.
